Working in Partnership

The NPIA Missing Persons Bureau has close links with the charity Missing People. The Bureau liaises with Missing People to share case information, and to ensure that the specialist resources and services of each organisation are utilised fully by police.

Missing People is a UK charity that provides support and advice to families left in limbo via their 24 hour freephone helpline 0500-700 700 for people who are missing someone. They can assist by producing publicity posters, website appeals and publishing details in other publications via their network of media partners.

Missing People also provide two helplines :-

Runaway Helpline (for those under 18 years old) which is a free and confidential service for anyone who has runaway or been forced to leave home.

Message Home Helpline that helps missing adults to reach advice, support and to reconnect with their family or carers via a message or three-way call.

The Missing Persons Bureau also continues to work closely with PACT - Parents and Abducted Children Together - an international, non-profit organisation registered both in the US and the UK, which aims to fight parental child abduction across borders, and to help the police locate and retrieve missing children.

In addition to promoting the Missing Kids website, PACT provide valuable assistance in initiatives such as:

  • The funding of posters that are distributed through Tesco stores featuring missing children in the UK
  • Establishing and promoting "Missing Kids TV", a campaign with Electronic Health Media that features missing children on digital screens located in doctors' surgeries and hospitals
  • Establishing the relationship with EMCOR Group UK which promote the Missing Kids website by featuring missing children on their distribution vans.
