Personal Safety Train the Trainers Course

Who Should Attend?


Individuals who are Personal Safety Trainers either in force, or at a police training centre, and who cascade the psyco-motor skills and the supporting theory to all levels of the police service.

Course / Module entry requirements


A qualified police trainer with appropriate working knowledge of personal safety.  Where an individual is not a qualified police trainer accredited prior learning (APL) may apply provided they meet the following criteria:  2 years' continuous employment in the role of a Personal Safety Trainer.

Overview


The Personal Safety Course as outlined in the documentation approved by ACPO and the Police Training Council (New Personal Safety Manual of Guidance) covers:  personal safety techniques and tactics; developing students in the practical and theory based issues surrounding personal safety training; safety considerations in personal safety training; health and safety legislation and risk assessments in respect of personal safety training.

Aims


To qualify personnel to cascade training and thereby to train, assess and qualify course candidates as Personal Safety Trainers.

Objectives


On completion of the programme participants will be able to ensure Personal Safety Trainers understand issues surrounding officer safety training.  The course will enable effective training in the following core areas:

  • Personal management skills;
  • Communication skills;
  • Searching skills;
  • Force reporting and writing;
  • Handcuffing skills;
  • Unarmed skills; 
  • Baton skills;
  • Incapacitate skills;
  • Custody office skills;
  • Vehicle skills.
