Between 23 - 26 July the International Commanders' Programme (ICP) visited the Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) for the first time to allow the participants to explore other police services with a view to developing an approach to policing from an international perspective and to sharing best practice. The visit was hosted by the Commissioner of RGP Louis Wink and his senior management team. The participants were briefed on all aspects of the work of the RGP including the formulation of strategic plans, operations, crime investigations, recruitment and training with specific reference to Gibraltar's historic, social, cultural, political and economic background. They also joined the Marine Police and Traffic Officers to have a feel for their daily work. Depending on individual expertise and interest, participants were able to discuss specific fields with respective subject officers in depth. In addition, the Chairman of the Gibraltar Police Authority, which was formed in 2006, met the delegate to share his experience in establishing collaboration with the police to enhance public safety and confidence. The participants, who represent the Police Services of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bermuda, Botswana, Brunei, Canada, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Sudan were also able to enjoy the uniqueness of Gibraltar with a varied social programme that included the Commissioner's dinner reception, a Rock Tour and a guided walking tour of the City.
