On 10 July 2008, NPIA entered into a contract with the Ministry of the Interior in Qatar for the provision of a range of leadership courses for their senior police officers. The contract was signed on behalf of NPIA by Angela O'Connor, the Chief People Officer for the organisation. This was the culmination of some months of meetings with the Qatari Ministry Officials which included a visit to Bramshill by a delegation from Qatar. The contract was signed at an official ceremony convened by His Highness the Minister of the Interior at the Headquarters in Doha. The ceremony was also attended by Mr Roderick Drummond, the Charges D'Affaires at the British Embassy, Kurt Eyre the Head of the International Academy at Bramshill and Ralph Rawsthorne and Sahar Awad the NPIA staff based in Abu Dhabi. At the end of the ceremony His Highness the Minister of the Interior presented Angela O'Connor with a gift to commemorate her visit to Qatar, a gift was also presented to His Highness in return. The visit incorporated meetings at the British Embassy, the Police Administration headquarters and a visit to the Special Forces unit. The Qatar work compliments the long established training programme that we have been involved with over the last 10 years in Abu Dhabi and further promoted the work of the organisation in the Gulf region. The first training course started on the 12th October, here is a link to a report in The Peninsula, the leading English language paper in Qatar
Both NPIA and Qatar Police are keen to develop links for future training on other police related issues and also to conduct a review of their existing police recruitment training programme.
