NPIA Extranet

Our extranet services provide information on operational policing issues via a secure site.

Our extranet services can assist teams across the PNN community to work together more effectively through the provision of platforms where they can share and access policing information within the criminal justice network. They also enable interested parties to contribute to discussions and collaborate on documents thus promoting and sharing ideas and opinions.

The sites have been developed by establishing databases that contain:

  • Information on all aspects of operational policing
  • Contact details of acknowledged experts and specialists
  • Signposts to other relevant databases
  • Details of available training and venues
  • Items of operational 'good practice'
  • Information on on-going research

Access can be gained from the police network via two URLs:

POLKA

The Police Online Knowledge Area (POLKA) is a new online collaboration platform provided by the NPIA for its staff and the wider policing community. It offers a new, efficient way of working that simplifies the sharing of knowledge and practice.

Groups of users, known as communities, can share, discuss and collaborate on a variety of information or documents through a range of technologies such as blogs, discussion forums and document libraries.

POLKA will be launched within the Agency initially then gradually rolled out to all of our stakeholders including Police Forces, ACPO and government agencies. It will also provide restricted internet access to other third parties including commercial partners with whom we do business.

POLKA will eventually replace all existing extranet sites.
