The National DNA Database annual report for 2006-7 is now available

10 October 2008

The report presents a positive picture of statistics on matches and detections.

The National DNA Database is a key intelligence tool which has revolutionised the way the police can protect the public through identifying offenders and securing more convictions. Read the Annual Report for 2006 - 07.

It provides critical investigative leads for police investigations and on average over 3,100 suspect-to-crime-scene matches each month.

The benefits of DNA are not only in detecting the guilty but in eliminating the innocent from inquiries, focusing the direction of inquiries resulting in savings in police time and in building public confidence that elusive offenders may be detected and brought to justice.
