Responses to Domestic Violence

Who Should Attend?


Module 1: All police and Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) personnel who have any professional connection with the subject of domestic violence.
Module 2: Call handlers and other communications room staff. Front counter staff may also benefit from the module.
Module 3: First response officers and others charged with the responsibility for the investigation of domestic violence incidents, including custody staff, specialist domestic violence officers and CID officers.
Module 4: Police and CPS personnel who have any professional connection with the subject of domestic violence.
Module 5: Specialist domestic violence officers and police domestic violence co-ordinators.
Module 6: Police managers with responsibility for specialist domestic violence officers or for domestic violence issues.
Module 7: A multi-agency audience that includes police and CPS personnel.
Module 8: CPS staff.

Overview


The programme comprises eight modules covering:

  2. Dealing with Reports of Domestic Violence
  3. Investigating Domestic Violence
  4. Domestic Violence and Child Abuse
  5. Specialising in Policing Domestic Violence
  6. Co-ordinating Police Activity in Relation to Domestic Violence
  7. Multi-agency Responses to Domestic Violence
  8. Prosecuting Cases of Domestic Violence

Aims


The programme aim is to provide learning for all police and Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) personnel who have any professional connection with the subject of domestic violence.

Objectives


  • Familiarity with legislation associated with policing domestic violence including the Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act 2004 and Human Rights Act 1998
  • Explain the principle requirements for delivering a quality police and CPS service to all victims of domestic violence, including children
  • Enable learners to understand and fulfil their role and responsibility in relation to policing domestic violence
