Senior staff from the NPIA People and Development Directorate, along with Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary, Sir Ronnie Flanagan and British Ambassador, Sir Edward Oakden, were personally invited by Minister for the Interior and Chief of Police for Abu Dhabi, His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to attend events celebrating ten years of partnership in the delivery of police leadership courses in Abu Dhabi. The courses have become an integral part of the Abu Dhabi police promotion system and pivotal in moving policing in Abu Dhabi toward a more community-based approach. Officers are expected to complete one of the courses as a pre-requisite to promotion. At a presentation ceremony which took place at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan paid tribute to the NPIA for its continued work in Abu Dhabi. He referred to the multicultural society within the United Arab Emirates and how important it was to deliver a service for the benefit of all residents. He emphasised the vital role the NPIA's training has had in developing a more effective policing service to the Emirate's citizens, describing the Agency as 'one of the distinguished institutes in the world'. Kurt Eyre, Head of the NPIA International Academy said: "This 10 year anniversary event encapsulated all that we aspire to within the NPIA International Academy. It was focused on an enduring partnership of trust and professional integrity, recognising our commitment to support the ongoing development and implementation of strategic and operational leadership and technical capabilities within the Abu Dhabi Police. To have both Sir Ronnie Flanagan and the British Ambassador praise the contribution of the Agency in improving policing in the Emirate but also in our wider regional influence in enhancing community safety generally, and leadership specifically, was undoubtedly the proudest moment of my career in International policing to date". Angela O'Connor, Chief People Officer at the NPIA said: "I am immensely proud of the work the International Academy has done in the United Arab Emirates and commend their success. The Academy has a long standing relationship with the Abu Dhabi police and has also been involved in the provision of HR strategy and project work as well as in leadership training. It is demonstrative of the extremely high quality of training and development that the NPIA delivers, that, as a policing organisation, it is held in such esteem across the world".
