The week began with lectures by Gus Nabney on Leadership on Monday. This was followed by Media Studies on the afternoon on the same day. Participants went through live television and radio interviews to equip them with skills on preparation and actual performance. On Wednesday Graham Dossett delivered lectures on Professional Standards based on ethics and policing and in the afternoon Doctor Olu Ogansakin taught Policing and Diversity. Activities continued on Thursday morning when Ralph Crawshaw delivered interesting lectures on International Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law and other professional policing ethics to guide participants in the performance in their duties. In the afternoon Gus continued his lectures on Strategic Development planning as an essential part of our strategic thinking of formulating plans when encountered with a problem or crisis and strengthening the organisation or institution efficiency and effectiveness. On Friday two Chief Inspectors from Hampshire Constabulary delivered joint lectures on Partnership Working as a system of reducing crime and disorder using Portsmouth City Strategic Initiatives as an example. Pinkro III We are now in week three. In this week we had a good mix of subjects after the usual duty of Monday diaries we had an excellent experience of TV and radio interviewing for each one of us. Actually, TV and radio interviewing skills would help policing operations positively. We have been trained on how media interviewing skills could benefit policing awareness and crime solving. If you think you are going to change the world, Mr. Simon will convince you in the Leadership session that "YOU" must be the change you wish to see in the world. We have learned how important the self management and self skills for the "LEADER". Saying "YES" or "NO" is not as easy as we thought. Dr. Olu Ogansakin talked about Diversity and Policing, concentrated on the negative effects of policemen beliefs and values on dealing with different ethnics and religions within the community. On Thursday, we had a good session about developing the strategies, as a leader, within the organisation and Mr. Simon used an interesting game to teach us how to plan a strategy in consistency with other organisations. It was so nice to learn by playing games. In conclusion, we had an excellent session on Partnership working by Carrie Pather. She explained by using a life example (Portsmouth Police) which is working with other local Authorities and organisations and the voluntary groups to reduce crime rates and planning consistent strategies. For two days, we had a good chance to learn more about Human Rights and policing by Dr. Ralph Crawshaw and Graham Dossett. They pressed on the misuse of the law against suspects and using torture as a way of having people admit to crimes. Dr. Ralph Crawshaw gifted every one a copy of his book about Human rights signed with his personal signature. We appreciate your gift Dr. Ralph.
