Overview

Mobile telephone evidence can play a critical role in criminal investigations.

The extent to which this evidence can be relied upon in court depends upon that evidence having been acquired in a forensically sound manner by a competent individual. This course was developed to address that requirement.

Aims

This course is intended to provide new or existing mobile phone examiners with exposure to and guidance on the use of appropriate forensic tools and procedures. It will also equip them with an understanding of how GSM/3G networks operate and their relevant legislation in this area.

Objectives

  • Explain the relationship between and impact of relevant England & Wales legislation on the work of the mobile phone forensic examiner
  • Provide guidance and advice to colleagues on good practice in the seizure and handling of mobile phones so as to preserve potential evidence
  • Use appropriate tools and procedures to retrieve data from a GSM or 3G (U)SIM card in a forensically sound manner.
