Who Should Attend?


This course is designed for officers who need to use the internet in their investigations.

Course / Module entry requirements


  • Delegates will be, or expect to be, in a role which requires them to conduct online investigations
  • Delegates will have experience of intelligence submission
  • Delegates will have used PCs in a home or work environment on a regular basis and will have knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet services such as the Web and email
  • Much of this course is hands-on and anyone attending who has not used a computer on a regular basis may not benefit

Assessment process / accreditation details

A series of written and practical assessments will occur throughout the course. Successful completion of this course will allow 10 credits to be obtained towards the MSc in Cybercrime Forensics offered by Canterbury Christ Church University.

Overview


All investigating officers should have the ability to safely and lawfully gather information and intelligence from sources on the Internet.

Aims


To provide investigating officers with the skills necessary to obtain, evaluate and use online information.

Objectives


After attending this course the participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to navigate Internet utilities in order to capture and evaluate relevant data
  • Identify key sources of publicly available information in the different areas of the Internet
  • Demonstrate the ability to navigate these sources in order to extract and evaluate relevant data
  • Apply best practice in respect of risk assessment process at each stage of an online investigation
  • Apply best practice in respect of proper authorisation and recording for online investigations.
