Who Should Attend?


This course is designed for Supervisors and Managers (who have little or no technical background) involved in the supervision, strategy and policy making involved with computer examination/investigation units.

Course / Module entry requirements


Delegates will be involved in the supervision, policies, strategies and management of computer investigation units. It would be an advantage if delegates have some knowledge of using a PC and are familiar with applications such as Microsoft.

Assessment process / accreditation details

Successful completion of this course and the assignment will allow 10 credits to be obtained towards the MSc in Cybercrime Forensics offered by Canterbury Christchurch University.

Overview


Evidence of criminality exists on many computers. This 3-day workshop will equip you with the knowledge to effectively manage a unit in this specialised area of work.

Aims


As recommended in the 'ACPO Good Practice Guide for Managers of Hi-Tech/Computer Crime Units', attending this 3 day workshop will assist in dealing with such issues as resources, staff welfare, equipment and training.

It also provides an excellent opportunity to network with peers and to speak directly with experts in the field about issues directly affecting you and your unit.

Objectives


After attending this course the participant will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of computers and digital online technologies
  • Explain how forensic practitioners can obtain and use computer data and online information to assist in investigations
  • Understand and explain how network investigators can obtain and use computer data and online information to assist in investigations
  • Explain the issues and requirements regarding legislation appertaining to computer related crime
  • Correctly identify all aspects of Health and Safety in the computer investigation environment
  • Explain the management and resource implications of digital crime investigations
  • Identify the key issues involved in the management of a high tech crime investigation unit
  • Be able to identify and implement good practice in line with the advice contained in ACPO advice & good practice guide for Management of High Tech Crime Units.
