Who Should Attend?


Staff new to Intelligence Units/Cells or those who have only been in post for a short period.  Staff such as FIOs, analysts, researchers, briefing officers etc. would be ideal.  The foundation module is not rank or role specific and is suitable for anyone working within the intelligence function.

Overview


This module is designed to provide a foundation for those staff working within a dedicated intelligence environment.

Aims


The Core Intelligence Course is an important first step to providing a structured learning programme for Intelligence staff.  It is the basis on which the current Intelligence Learning & Development Programme is built.

Objectives


On completion of the module students will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between intelligence and information
  • Recognise the key components of the Intelligence Cycle
  • Outline the impact of relevant legislation within an intelligence environment
  • Outline the 5 x 5 x 5 evaluation process
  • Prepare fully evaluated and sanitised intelligence reports with the appropriate handling code
  • Explain the principles of the National Intelligence Model and describe the four key intelligence products
  • Identify the roles within intelligence
  • Explain the need for security awareness and the importance of protecting intelligence
  • Describe the principles and benefits of effective briefing
  • Describe the relevant operations contained within the National C.T Contest Strategy
