Who Should Attend?


This module forms part of the Senior leadership Programme and is aimed at Superintendents, Chief Superintendents and equivalent police staff.

Course / Module entry requirements


Applications for the Senior Leadership Programme must be sent to the Customer Support Team via your Force Training Manager or equivalent, and all nominees:

  • Must be Superintendent rank or police staff equivalent
  • Ideally have completed the NPIA Foundation for Senior Leaders Programme
  • Have the full backing and support of their Chief Officer

Course / Module duration

This course will be delivered by the National School of Government over four days at NPIA sites during 2009/10 as part of the revised Senior Leadership Programme.

Methods of delivery

Finance for non-finance leaders will use pre-course e-learning followed by a workshop with presentations, discussions and informally assessed exercises to facilitate learning before finishing with an end of course pass/ fail examination.

Overview


The overall aim of the core Senior Leadership Programme is to provide a structured leadership development programme, delivering career critical professional, executive and business skills, to enable high performing senior leaders of the 21st century.

Prior to commencing the four 'career critical' modules within the Senior Leadership Programme, delegates are required to complete the Induction, EDHR and Finance modules

Aims


This module aims to  provide non-finance leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to manage the use of finance and resources at district/ command unit level.

Objectives


By the end of this course learners will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of financial management to develop an effective and efficient productivity strategy for their area of command/ business
  • Monitor and oversee resource or capital budgets applying ethical decision making to expenditure and income opportunities
  • Prepare and evaluate a financial budget making recommendations for financial improvements
