The course was Investigative Skills based for Senior Investigators from the Royal Oman Police, the object of which was to introduce, compare and discuss UK strategies and methodology of investigating Major Crime. The aim was to expose these officers to methods used within the UK and should they think them worthy, they could integrate these investigative skills into their method of working. The course tutors were Roy Rainford and Stewart Jenkins both of whom have extensive experience in presenting Investigative Skills based courses to UK investigators as well as delegates from Middle Eastern Countries. The Course was held at the Traffic Training Institute, Seeb, Muscat, Oman which at first sight appeared an anomaly as the course was aimed at Major Crime issues. However, the facilities offered within that building were new, modern and up to date thus providing the delegates and the tutors with the best all round amenities. Eleven delegates attended the course consisting of seven Lt Colonels and four Majors. The majority of the officers were experienced crime investigators working out of front line Police Stations throughout Oman. Their recognition and acceptance of the experience provided by the tutors combined with their own wide and varied experience gave them the ability and willingness to discuss, in depth, the core subjects. All the Delegates actively and enthusiastically involved themselves in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the course. This interaction was not limited only to the issues in the curriculum but expanded to those issues which effected wider aspects of their criminal investigations and how the matters under discussion could be used by them to fit into their laws and customs. This willingness to engage with their colleagues and tutors displayed a thirst to build upon their knowledge and experience. Feedback from all of the Delegates regarding all aspects of the course was extremely positive. The hospitality, openness and willingness to learn by the Officers on the course combined with friendliness of the Omani people made the whole experience a pleasure.
