Overview


This course takes the experienced Volume Crime Scene Investigator to the next level and equips them with the skills and knowledge to start dealing with more serious incidents. The course is student centred with the emphasis on group work and understanding the role of the CSI in the wider investigative context.

Aims


To further enhance the skills developed on the Foundation VCSI course in order to bring the candidate up to the level of the substantive crime scene investigator role.

Objectives


On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to demonstrate competence in:
. Safe working practice
. Evaluating evidence and its intelligence value
. Initial actions to be taken at the scene of a serious incident
. Photography under difficult lighting conditions
. Evaluation of evidence and its intelligence value
. Examination of basic fire scenes
. Recovery of samples relating to firearms incidents
