Remote Transmission of Crime Scene Marks

Remote Transmission allows the rapid transfer of crime scene marks using established scanning and transfer of electronic images into the force fingerprint bureaux.

How it works

The technology allows the transfer of electronic images directly into police force fingerprint bureaux. Traditionally this has been achieved through internal force transportation methods, which have dropped far behind the capabilities that modern technology can offer. The project has combined high street technology with secure networks such as the Criminal Justice Extranet (CJX) and Virtual Private Networks (VPN) that most forces now have in local operation to transfer data between  departments and force users.

RT can reduce the average time taken to publish a fingerprint identification from 17 days down to two days.  RT reduces the processing time in the Fingerprint Bureau for receiving and processing fingerprint lifts.

Patrolling police officers directed by intelligence and local knowledge, can search for a suspect immediately, increasing the likelihood that a suspect will be arrested, stolen property recovered and further evidence such as glass, fibres, footwear and clothing will be captured. This increases public satisfaction, and has allowed forces to bring offenders to justice and reduce the insurance liabilities involved.

RT also eases the submission process and ensures a police officer has the capacity to use an identification early on in the investigative process. This means that offenders could be brought to justice rapidly, resulting in a reduction in further crimes being committed.
