Who Should Attend?


Fingerprint personnel with some experience (minimum of 18 months) working within a Bureau.

Course / Module entry requirements


Successful completion of the Foundation Fingerprint Course and fully completed and assessed Intermediate Evidential Portfolios 1 and 2.  You are required to forward these two Evidential Portfolios for assessment at least 6 weeks prior to attending the course.   The Intermediate Evidential Portfolios (EP) covers the following topics:

  • EP1 - Analysis, Comparison, Evaluation of Friction Ridge Skin impressions (ACE)  
  • EP2 - Recovery and Recording Friction Ridge Detail from
    • Cadavers
    • Laboratory
    • Crime Scene

Overview


A two week course designed to develop practical skills and knowledge gained on the Foundation Course and the Intermediate Evidential Profiles.

Aims


To provide training at an intermediate level with emphasis on practical identification skills and competences and to provide a springboard towards the Advanced Assessment.

Objectives


On successful completion of the course participants will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding and developed application of ACE-V methodology.
  • Appreciate the basic principles of the preparation and presentation of fingerprint evidence
  • Have refreshed IDENT1 Best Practice with particular emphasis on mark encoding and comparison
  • Experience and appreciate a 'witness box' scenario
  • Reinforce information from the Foundation Fingerprint course and Evidential Portfolios 1 and 2 including Crime Scene awareness by undertaking practical scenarios.
