Advanced Fingerprint Assessment

Who Should Attend?


Experienced Bureau personnel (the equivalent of 3 years +) who have successfully completed the mandatory Foundation and Intermediate courses and the Intermediate and Advanced Evidential Portfolios and are considered suitable candidates for expert status.

Course / Module entry requirements


Students must have successfully completed the mandatory Foundation and Intermediate courses and Intermediate and Advanced Evidential Portfolios.  There is a requirement to bring the Advanced Evidential Portfolio to the course for assessment.

The Advanced Evidential Portfolio (EP3) covers the following topics;

  •  Verification of Friction Ridge Skin comparison results
  •  Preparation of Fingerprint Evidence
  •  Presentation of Fingerprint Evidence

Assessment process / accreditation details

Assessments to demonstrate fingerprint theoretical knowledge, ACE-V skills and courtroom presentation capabilities.  On successful completion of this assessment the fingerprint examiner can become a Registered Fingerprint Expert and be qualified to give evidence of expert opinion in a court of law.

Hard copies of the National Fingerprint Training Manual and Student Development Profile are essential requirements to bring to all courses.

Overview


This is the final stage of the National Fingerprint Learning Programme and assesses an Officers practical competence and knowledge by undertaking a practical, a theory and final court assessment.

Aims


To assess the candidates theoretical knowledge, advanced ACE-V competences and courtroom presentation skills.

Objectives


By the time participants complete the Advanced Assessment they will have demonstrated:

  • Knowledge and experience of the preparation and presentation of fingerprint evidence and expert opinion in court
  • Up-to-date information on new developments in this specialist field
  • Assessment by senior lawyers from the CPS
  • Assessment by senior practitioners from within the profession
  • Demonstrate all knowledge covered in Foundation and Intermediate Fingerprint courses and Evidential Portfolios 1, 2 and 3.
