Moving On - PALP for Senior Leaders

This new programme sets out to work with members of under represented groups who have reached the rank of Chief Inspector/Superintendent or police staff grade equivalent.

Overview

Building on the success of the original Positive Action Leadership Programme, the need for a senior version was identified by the ACPO Progression Group who, with the Home Office, asked NPIA to explore the feasibility of delivering a programme to members of under represented groups who had reached the rank of Chief Inspector/Superintendent or police staff grade equivalent.

Using the successful Leadership for Senior Women course as a basis, 'Moving On' is a more inclusive programme that is intended to replicate the success of the Positive Action Leadership Programme at a more senior level for all minority groups focussing on women and BME officers and staff in particular.

The course has recently been piloted and a programme of courses is currently being planned for 2010-11. It will be delivered at various NPIA sites over 5 days.

As with the Positive Action Leadership Programme the aim of the course is to encourage the retention and progression of members of under represented groups in the Police Service and access to the course will therefore be extended to include members of other groups that are under represented as it is rolled out throughout 2010-11.

Moving on complements the NSCAS 'Releasing Potential' programme and as such NPIA is providing key support to development of a more diverse Police Service at its most senior level.
