Rape Investigator CPD Events
From: 22/01/2010
To: 12/02/2010
Location: VariousThis event was by invitation only Managed by: NPIA Event Team
Overview
In over 75% of rape cases the identity of the suspect is known at the time of the offence or is established very soon afterwards. Very often there is little corroborative evidence available to investigators to assist them with the subsequent investigation. The consequence is that there is often no challenge from the alleged offender that sex has taken place with the issue of consent having to be established before a prosecution can ensue.
There is little available advice to investigators on either the psychology of offending in this scenario or the tactics required to carry out effective interviews of alleged offenders in rape cases which fall outside the category of familial and stranger rape.
This series of continuous professional development days will provide greater awareness to interviewing officers as to the psychology of offending and also potential tactics within the interview process to help build a stronger case through more effective interviewing of suspects.
