Methods of delivery

Phase One: Pre read sent to delegates

Phase Two: Classroom based 2 day course including a range of individual and group exercises. Delegates will be required to demonstrate competence in assessing written exercises and competency based structured interviews.


 

Assessment process / accreditation details

Specials Recruits Assessment Process

 

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course delegates will be awarded the NPIA Specials Recruit Assessor Course certificate of attendance.

Delegates will then need to demonstrate competence in each of the components (assessing written exercises and interviewing) for one session at a live Specials Recruit Assessment Process, before achieving qualification in that component.

Additional Information

Specials Recruit Assessor Course should be delivered no less than 4 weeks prior to your Forces first live Specials Assessment Process.

This course is a pass/fail course.

The first course is currently free to Home Office forces. Subsequent courses will cost £1000 and Forces will be required to book their own accommodation.

Overview


Aims


To provide course delegates with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to enable delegates to qualify and perform as competent Specials Recruit Assessors in their relevant exercises as required. 

Objectives


By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the objectives of the Specials Recruit Assessment Process
  • Describe the stages and procedural steps associated with an ideal assessment/selection process
  • Describe how the Specials Recruit Assessment Process method relates to the ORCE (Observe, Record, Classify and Evaluate) method of assessment
  • Differentiate between general evidence and specific behavioural evidence
  • Identify barriers to fair and objective assessment
  • Outline the context and rationale of Specials Recruit Process exercises
  • Explain the process of marking inappropriate behaviour or language within the Specials Recruit Assessment Process
  • Apply the process of marking inappropriate behaviour or language within the Specials Recruit Assessment Process
  •  Explain the different sections on a Specials CASA Assessment Sheet
  • Complete Specials CASA Assessment Sheet to Specials Recruit Process standard
  • Demonstrate the process of calculating accurate grades
