21 June 2010

Chris Hughes

The National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) has today announced the
re-appointment of NPIA Board member Chris Hughes.

Chris Hughes was initially appointed for three years from April 2007 to March 2010. The Home Office have now renewed his contract for another two years.  He will continue to receive remuneration of £20,000 per annum from the NPIA and is one of three non-executive members on the NPIA Board.

Commenting on the new re-appointment, NPIA Board Chairman Peter Holland said: "I am pleased that Chris has been reappointed to the Board.  The experience he has brought is a great asset to the NPIA, and will help ensure that we continue to improve delivery to policing."

Speaking on his re-appointment, Chris Hughes said: "I am delighted to have been re-appointed to the NPIA Board. The NPIA plays a vital role in helping the police service to reduce crime, maintain order and increase the public's confidence in policing. I look forward to helping ensure that the NPIA continues to deliver for the police and the public."

In addition to this, a new member has joined the board. Chief Constable of Essex Jim Barker-McCardle, has replaced Chief Constable of Bedfordshire Police Gillian Parker, who will be retiring from the service.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Hughes has declared that he is not politically active.
