The NPIA supports forces in delivering savings and identifying efficiencies. Our work provides direction and oversight to national and force led initiatives, helping to generate savings of over £1 billion a year by March 2015.

Drawing on the collective experience of the police service, the Cost Effectiveness Programme supports police forces and authorities in taking a sustainable, evidence-based approach to implementing savings opportunities.

The programme complements work to which we have already committed substantial resource, including the Information Systems Improvement Strategy (ISIS), the Collaborative Police Procurement Programme, Workforce Planning and Continuous Improvement

The NPIA is focusing on:

  • Oversight and leadership of work to support the service in delivering over £1 billion cash savings by March 2015
  • Provision of a diagnostic service to support forces in identifying potential opportunities for generating cash savings within a limited timeframe
  • Application of a Tasking and Co-ordination process to harmonise national support programmes and direct support to where its impact will be greatest
  • Liaison with stakeholders at the national level to drive uptake of cost effective processes and behaviours within the police service
  • Identifying good practice and sharing experiences from within the service
