Who Should Attend?

Media Awareness is aimed at all inspectors. It may also be suitable for anyone else with a role-related requirement.

Course / Module entry requirements

Completion of the CLDP Being a Leader module or similar learning is a suggested pre-requisite to undertaking this module.

This module is available in Workbook or e-Workbook and Workshop format for licensed forces. For further details please contact your force training department.

Course / Module duration

4 - 5 hours self-directed learning. This may be followed by a 1 - 2 day in-force Workshop for those with an identified training need.

Methods of delivery

This module will be delivered through a combination of WorkBooks or e-learning e-WorkBooks with additional WorkShops for those with an identified learning need.

Cost to HO Forces

There is no direct charge for participants from licensed funded forces.

Cost to non HO Forces

Non-Home Office funded and other forces/organisations will be charged as laid out in the licensing agreement on a force-by-force basis.

Overview

Media Awareness is about the leadership skills and knowledge needed by managers to work effectively with the media.

Aims

It focuses on two areas:

  • The principles of effective media contact: the factors that influence effective communication with the public and the importance of accuracy and discretion
  • The practice of effective media contact: how to communicate using different forms of media.

Objectives

Media Awareness will assist learners to:

  • Explain the benefits of communication with the public and the factors that influence effectiveness
  • Describe the principles of accuracy and discretion that apply to media contact
  • Describe how to plan and structure a presentation
  • Describe the factors to take into account when presenting information to meetings
  • Describe how to communicate effectively to different forms of media.
