Three separate weeks

Methods of delivery

This module will be delivered through a combination of presentations, facilitated discussions, immersive simulation exercises and case study exercises.

Assessment process / accreditation details

Learning objectives for the programme are aligned to the learning outcomes of a level 6 Leadership & Management qualifications with the Chartered Management Institute. Successful completion of the programme will provide delegates with a Level 6 Certificate in Leadership & Management.

Overview

The Foundation for Senior Leadership Programme consists of three seperate modules. Each module is aligned to either the Executive Skills, Business Skills or Professional Policing Skills element of the National Leadership Strategy and can be used towards qualifications in 'Leadership and Management' with the Chartered Management Institute.

 

Aims

To provide delegates with the knowledge, understanding and skills required within the complex business of policing.

Objectives

The objectives for each module will assist delegates in developing their performance more effectively by being able to:

Executive Skills

  • Explain the concept of Emotional Intelligence and how this interacts and enhances their ability to lead using different leadership styles and models
  • Explore how personal values and beliefs can effect organisational decision making and ones that impact on them as a leader
  • Apply the principles of change management to individual responses and how that can translate into a more productive working environment
  • Explore opportunities to be creative and innovative and employ methodologies that stimulate and encourage workplace efficiency and productivity
  • Explore principles of negotiating and influencing and how these can develop spheres of influence
  • Be able to understand the skills of cultural audits and organisational culture
  • Raise levels of self awareness around preference types and leadership

Business Skills

  • Explain the professional management of performance required to improve measurable service delivery in relation to individuals, finance and resources
  • Apply methodologies of resource management to meet local needs, mitigate risk and improve service delivery
  • Apply the principles of change management at an organisational level and adopt change management methodologies to improve performance and productivity
  • Be able to understand the relationship between organisational culture, strategy and performance
  • Be able to understand the forces for change in an organisation
  • Be able to understand the impact of the change process
  • Be able to understand the management of the change process

Professional Policing Skills

  • Explore the areas of risk and human rights and apply to the National Decision Making process
  • Apply the principles of incident command and decision making within an operational policing environment
  • Apply learning from the Executive and Business modules and consider how this learning shapes Policing and the context in which it operates
