PTRLDP: Core Skills and Values

Who Should Attend?


Those who are about to undertake, or have just embarked upon, the roles of Trainer, Tutor, Instructor or Presenter as defined in the Skills for Justice Role Profiles.

Course / Module entry requirements


Completion of the Police Race and Diversity Learning and Development Programme:  'Introduction to Diversity' e-learning training package.

Please note module dates are released on a six-month rolling basis.  The dates and venues, below, will be updated accordingly.

NPIA is also committed to facilitating local delivery of PTRLDP modules.

Dates and Venues

Course / Module duration

11 days.

Methods of delivery

Days 1 to 5: Classroom-based sessions.

Days 6 to 10: Work-Based Learning back in force, supported by a Work-Based Learning Mentor. Note that the Work-Based Learning week is an integral part of the programme and comprises a full 37 hours of self-directed learning. Delegates are not available for abstractions or other duties during this week.

Day 11: Consolidation of Work-Based Learning; classroom-based sessions.

NCALT (MLE) access of E-Learning packages and Work-Based Learning Delegate and Mentor's Handbooks.

Assessment process / accreditation details

Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

Overview


This core module is the foundation for all those embarking upon police training delivery roles as defined by the Skills for Justice Role Profiles.

Aims


To introduce students to the foundation elements of all training delivery, within the context of a values-based approach to learning.

Objectives


This module will enable learners to:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved in training roles. 
  • Understand how people learn. 
  • Understand how to support learners effectively. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a values-based approach to learning and development 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts and principles of assessment and review a range of assessment methods 
  • Understand the fundamental importance of diversity issues within the police learning environment. 
  • Understand reflective practice and professional development.
