First Aid Skills for Policing (FASP) Module 3 - First Aid Skills for Custody Staff

Who Should Attend?


This module is aimed at custody staff.  The ACPO working group on first aid envisages that all custody staff will receive this training prior to taking up a custody post.

Bespoke - training can be organised at NPIA site or local to a force - considerations to shift patterns and weekend working can be accommodated as required.

Course / Module duration

One full day or up to nine hours.

Methods of delivery

Providing theoretical and practical experience this course will be delivered through a combination of presentations and demonstrations with replication by delegates, combined with continual observation and coaching by course trainer.

Assessment process / accreditation details

Continuous assessment plus final assessment of the delegates' practical and theoretical ability to manage an appropriate emergency first aid situation.

Certification

First Aid Certificates are valid for a period of three years from certification.

Additional Information

Refresher training must be take place annually. Part of the training should focus of new procedures and changes to practice that have been introduced since the delegates' previous training.

The ratio of delegates to trainer will be a maximum of twelve to one.

The Module can be taught in its entirety or on a modular basis and can be adapted to suit a particular need for a particular organisation. 

Costs will be calculated on a case by case basis according to training course and number of delegates involved.

Overview


This module, which includes those aspects of first aid relevant to the custody role, and exceeds the HSE Appointed Persons First Aid Course. This Module includes FASP Module One (Emergency Life Support)

Aims


To provide course participants with the necessary first aid knowledge, understanding and skill to support them in a custody role.

Objectives


By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Manage an emergency situation at work
  • Administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
  • Administer first aid to somebody who is unconscious
  • Carry out first aid to somebody who is wounded or bleeding
  • Carry out first aid with consideration for psychiatry, self-harm, drugs and alcohol.
