First Aid Skills for Policing (FASP) Module 4 - First Aid at Work

Who Should Attend?


The ACPO working group envisages that it will primarily be aimed at Police specialists such as Fire Arm Officers and PSU medics.  It could however be delivered equally well to other grades of staff where First Aid at Work level is required.

Bespoke - training can be organised at an NPIA site or local to a force - considerations to shift patterns and weekend working can be accommodated as required.

Course / Module duration

4 consecutive half days or up to 16hrs.

Methods of delivery

Providing theoretical and practical experience this course will be delivered through a combination of presentations and demonstrations with replication by delegates, combined with continual observation and coaching by course trainer.

Assessment process / accreditation details

Continuous assessment plus final assessment of the delegates' practical and theoretical ability to manage an appropriate emergency first aid situation.

Certification

First Aid Certificates are valid for a period of three years from certification.

Additional Information

Refresher training must take place every three years.  Part of the training should focus on new procedures and changes to practice that have been introduced since the students' previous training. 

The ratio of delegates to trainer will be a maximum of twelve to one.

The Module can be adapted to suit a particular need for a particular organisation.  It can be taught in its entirety or on a modular basis.

Overview


Developed with the assistance of the HSE to conform to First Aid at Work standard, this module will satisfy forces' responsibility to training a proportion of their staff to HSE standards.

Aims


To provide course participants with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skill to enable them to carry out First Aid at Work.

Objectives


By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Manage an emergency situation at work
  • Administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
  • Administer first aid to somebody who is unconscious
  • Carry out a variety of first aid scenarios appropriate to the role.
