About us

Formed in April 2007, the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) was closed on 7 October 2013.

In July 2010, the Home Secretary announced she intended to phase out the NPIA.

By December 2012, the NPIA had transferred all of our operational functions to the Home Office, the College of Policing and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). Some of these functions have since transferred or will transfer from the above bodies to the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Police ICT Company, when the latter is established.

The NPIA remained in being until it was wound up through the bringing into force of the Crime and Courts Act 2013 on 7 October 2013.
