About Us

Formed in April 2007, the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) has now transferred all its operational functions and is preparing for closedown.

The NPIA will remain in being until it is wound up through the Crime and Courts Act, which is currently before Parliament. A small team remains in the agency to close it down.

We have transferred all of our operational functions to the Home Office, the College of Policing and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA).

The Proceeds of Crime function has moved to SOCA, but the NPIA will retain statutory responsibility for this until legislative change in the autumn of 2013.

For information about the closedown of the NPIA and the transfer of its functions, see the Our Future page.
