Information Communication Technology training

We are involved in researching, designing and implementing training for national police computer systems.

Our role includes the production of training materials, teaching trainers to train the Police National Computer and other national ICT system operators, training managers of selected systems, and some operators. In addition, our staff undertake ICT consultancy driven by the Home Office or Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

Our services are available to UK police services and criminal justice agencies. Training is delivered either at the customer site or at one of the NPIA sites located around the country.

The following national ICT systems are included within our portfolio:

The Police National Computer (PNC) is the primary national police computer system in the United Kingdom. It is available to the police and other agencies within the criminal justice sector. It holds comprehensive details of people, vehicles, crimes and property on its databases. The PNC also has interfaces with a number of other databases used in public protection and law enforcement.

ViSOR is a national database of all offenders who have sex offender registration conditions imposed upon them following criminal conviction, and information on violent and potentially dangerous people. This system is used primarily by Public Protection Units to manage offenders.

Airwave-  is the national digital trunk radio system that has been rolled out to police forces throughout the UK. The unit currently offers places on the Force Operations Airwave Tactical Advisers (FOATA) courses. The next three courses are to be held at Ryton from 4-7 Aug 09, 27-30 Oct 09 and 24-27 Nov 09.

Details can be found on the courses and products list under Airwave. We also offer workshops for Force Control Room Supervisors and Airwave Operational Planners run at the location of the Airwave user. Details of the workshops can also be found under the Airwave heading in the courses and products list.

Crimelink - This national database allows crime and intelligence analysts to identify patterns of crime across the UK and use that information to aid in the detection of criminals.

Information Management Prioritisation Analysis Co-ordination and Tasking (IMPACT) - This system is being developed as a direct result of recommendations from the Bichard Inquiry. It will eventually provide national access, for all police forces, to all the information held on individuals involved in crimes. The information sources will include PNC, ViSOR and specified crime systems within each police force. We are currently offering courses relating to the use of  the IMPACT Nominal Index (INI), and developing courses related to the IMPACT Police National Database (PND).
