Leadership
We recognise that everyone in policing has leadership responsibility - whether as a manager of a team, a member of a team, interacting with the public or providing a support function. Our modular approach to learning is underpinned by national qualification routes through the Chartered Management Institute and Institute of Directors. A new leadership curriculum is being created by the NPIA for the National College of Police Leadership. Extensive consultation continues to ensure the design of each programme reflects the ambitions of the service. The new leadership pathway looks like this:
Countdown to a new college
The principle aim will be to work with the police service to develop leaders who are equipped with the skills to meet the challenges of policing, with one of the key hallmarks being its focus on an on-going two-way dialogue with the service to ensure leadership programmes are in-step with current needs.

The college's curriculum is structured on the three leadership domains, as outlined in the NPIA's Leadership Strategy, ensuring there is an appropriate blend of business, professional and executive policing skills across all programmes at all levels.
The focus of the college will be on 'applied learning' - the transfer of learning into policing practice through research and first hand experience. The development team have been working with forces to understand the demand for each of the programmes into future years.
Flexibility in the way programmes are delivered is being explored, to ensure demand is met without compromising the quality of the programmes. Over the following months the development team will be in regular contact with force training managers to continue the dialogue.
