Strategic Command Course

The Strategic Command Course (SCC) prepares selected police officers for promotion to the most senior ranks in the Service. The course is also open to police staff at equivalent grades. 

This course is open to police officers at superintendent and chief superintendent ranks from all UK forces who have shown the potential to progress further in their careers and is a statutory requirement for officers seeking promotion to Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) ranks. Selection is by way of the Senior Police National Assessment Centre (Senior PNAC).

It is also open to police staff at equivalent grades and selection is by way of the Senior Staff Selection process.

Preparation for the Course

To better understand the commitment that you, your mentor and supporting chief officer must undertake we advise that all candidates read the following:

Professional Development Plans

An up-to-date and effective professional development plan (PDP) is required by all participants to aid their preparation for Senior PNAC or the Senior Staff Selection Process and the SCC.

In conjunction with the National Senior Careers Advisory Service (NSCAS), we will be offering a PDP Advisory Service to prospective applicants. To access the service please send a copy of your current PDP to the SCC email address.

Completion of Psychometrics

Participants on the SCC will also be expected to have completed a Hay ECI and Myers Briggs Type Indicator Step II as an aid to their development and as a tool to inform their PDP.
