We will shortly be launching a new national qualification specifically linked to the Police Training Roles Learning and Development Programme. The new award, developed in partnership with City and Guilds, will be available to candidates who have completed, or are embarking upon, PTRLDP. AP(E)L routes will also be available for suitably qualified candidates who wish to register for the new award. The City and Guilds award is a Vocationally Related Qualification (Level 4) and will assess candidates' practical skills and knowledge in relation to police learning and development. A VRQ differs from NVQ-based assessment in that it assesses a wider range of skills and knowledge and is largely assignment-based. NPIA will act as an approved centre for the administration of the new award, but it will also be open to individual forces to apply to City and Guilds for centre approval. Achievement of the new award will be based upon the completion of individual units of assessment, which can be undertaken within flexible timeframes. Furthermore, the assessment units are mapped to assessment criteria developed by Lifelong Learning UK as part of their Teacher Qualifications Framework. The benefit of this mapping is that candidates who have achieved a credit within our award will have gained credits that are directly transferrable across to other teaching and training roles within the learning and skills sector. This offers the learner more freedom, choice and flexibility in terms of their future career development. NPIA is very proud that this new qualification is leading the way in the implementation of the QCF, and as such represents a bench mark of excellence within the learning and skills sector. The Interim Assessment Strategy is available to current candidates. Click here for more information.
