Fingerprint Training

We are one of only two accredited centres in the UK delivering training for law enforcement agency staff in the analysis, comparison and identification of friction ridge detail.

The National Fingerprint Learning Programme leads a fingerprint officer through their career from trainee to expert status and on to continuous professional development (CPD).

The programme requires attendance on residential courses at our Forensic Centre and successful completion of evidential portfolios in the workplace. It is the only route possible to achieve fingerprint expert status in the UK. Students who achieve expert status are then included on the National Register of Fingerprint Experts.

Once expert status has been reached the Fingerprint Officer is able to achieve and maintain competency within their role via, external workshops, in-force training, distance learning and performance monitoring.

We can offer forces external workshops in the following subject areas:

  • Court skills
  • Identification skills
  • AFIS skills
  • Forensic awareness
  • Palms

Training is provided by a small team of experienced fingerprint experts, who collectively have over 120 years practical experience and who offer development, guidance and support to all students.
