Entry can only be gained to the foundation degree by enrolling on the Foundation CSI Learning Programme. The foundation degree programme is divided into six modules to be completed over a period of two to five years. The programme is started during the period of induction and continues until the individual becomes a fully competent Crime Scene Investigator. Modules are weighted in multiples of credits; each module will have assigned the designated credits associated with the learning requirement. Together the six modules equate to the first two years of study on a traditional degree programme. However, unlike a traditional degree a foundation degree realises the opportunities for work based learning and assessment and as such four of the six modules are completed in, and are specifically related to, the workplace. Students who successfully complete the mandatory ACPO National Fingerprint Learning Programme, will be awarded a Foundation Degree in Fingerprint Identification by the University of Teesside. Students who complete the Crime Scene Management Development Programme are able to achieve the NPIA Core Leadership Development Programme modules in Being a Leader, Health and Safety and Staff Welfare.
