Overview


The module utilises a variety of teaching methods including theory and practical elements. An exercise, based on a case study, will be used to consolidate learning and put theory into practice.

Aims


To provide trained analysts with the enhanced knowledge and skills necessary for the effective analytical support of a major incident investigation.

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Explain the SIO decision making and major incident investigation process.
  • Use appropriate methods to manage the information collection for analysis.
  • Explain how financial and communications information can be utilised within a major incident investigation.
  • Demonstrate how the analytical techniques can be applied within a major incident investigation.
  • Demonstrate how the intelligence cycle can be used to explain the application of analysis.
  • Negotiate with an SIO the terms of reference for the analytical support within a major incident investigation.
  • Explain how legislation and guidance practically impacts upon the role of an analyst within a major incident investigation.
