Workforce Modernisation
Currently, we are working with thirteen police forces, known as 'demonstration sites'. These forces are testing ways of working aimed at increasing their capacity and capability. After reviewing business processes the demonstration sites will look at how they match skills to tasks. This work will be evaluated and made available as examples of good practice. Where benefits are identified, improvements can be introduced to maximise police effectiveness. An interim evaluation report on the demonstration sites has been completed by independent evaluators (Deloitte), commissioned by the Home Office. As recommended in Sir Ronnie Flanagan's Review of Policing, the results of the evaluation have been published in order to share valuable learning with the service ahead of a final report which will be completed in early 2010. Our new e-zine features a review of the national conference, an update on resilience research and our regular 'The Advisor' column, featuring advice from Peter Loader, director of Process Evolution. Download this month's e-zine The Knowledge. Research shows that the way the service is organised does not make the best use of its most valuable resource - its people. We have to change to address the growing complexity of modern policing within the allocated funding.
