This area has been designed to support force communicators and the media for the launch of the Police National Database (PND). Find out more about the PND and how it will benefit operational policing. Within this area you will have access to: National media If you have a query about any of the information on this site or would like more information please contact the NPIA Press Office or Lucy Ferguson. Local media For more information please contact your local force press office who will be able to provide you will localised information for the launch. Force communicators For more information visit the POLKA Comms Zone or contact Lucy Ferguson. Privacy The PND does not hold new information but simply reflects what is held on local forces' systems. However, we understand the concerns that the public may have about the creation of any new database of sensitive personal information. That is why we conducted a Privacy Impact Assessment of the PND, the report of which we published in April 2009, one of the first public bodies to conduct such an assessment. The PIA update report, June 2011, sets out the steps we have taken in response to the recommendations of that assessment, including the considerable safeguards we have built in to the PND to make it the most secure national police IT system ever.
